Contemporary Japan is said to be a stressful society, as well as an aging one.
Reflecting those trends, medical expenses are skyrocketing each year.
Consequently, preventive medicine is spotlighted as a major issue.

Under these circumstances, esthetics is expected to play such roles as:
1 Maintaining health and anti-aging,
2 Preventing obesity, which is a cause of lifestyle-related illnesses,
3 Promoting oriental medicine, dietetics, aromatics, nail care, health spas,
and related fields, and
4 Offering counseling, healing, and relaxation.

Estheticians are therefore required to possess a wide range of knowledge and skills, including knowledge about basic medicine, oriental medicine, dietetics, and healing, along with counseling skills.

Regrettably, there is still a long way to go before sufficient opportunities become available to acquire such knowledge and skills systematically.
The ISCOHB holds accreditation seminars to enhance the characteristics of estheticians.
